“Ilie Murgulescu” Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Romanian Academy

Country: Romania

Description:

The “Ilie Murgulescu” Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Romanian Academy stands as a unit of complex research approaching a wide spectrum of basic and advanced problems of physical chemistry. The research group involved in the project comes from the Laboratory of Chemical Thermodynamics which is a leading laboratory for basic and applied thermodynamic research. The main thematic fields are oriented on research activities with impact in the following domains: materials science, nanoscience and nanotechnologies, new sources of energies, biothermodynamics - including thermodynamics at bio-nano interface.

Main Task:

The activity is especially devoted to the investigation of the biomolecules–nanoparticle interaction. The complex phenomena occurring at the bio/nano interface are evaluated by assessing nanoparticle-protein binding thermodynamics and protein stability. A careful evaluation of the trade-off between the nanomaterial properties, energetic parameters and their implications on cellular uptake will contribute to the selection and optimization of nanosystems developed in the project.
