Description:

The Molecular Oncology group is strongly involved in translational research in lung and upper respiratory tract cancers and is characterized by its multidisciplinarity. The team includes researchers with expertise in different areas such as: molecular and cellular biologists, clinical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and immunologists. Our contributions to the Consortium could be summarized in the following points:

  1. Skills in the analysis of biomarkers in fresh and FFPE samples.
  2. Expertise and know how in NGS technologies (especially in targeted sequencing)
  3. Expertise and know how in the growing area of liquid biopsies
  4. Large collection of biological samples (fresh tissue, serum, plasma, lymphocytes, and platelets). The collection includes updated clinical data
  5. In vitro models: primary cultures, spheroids derived from  lung cancer tumors.

Main Task:

The role of the Molecular Oncology group in the project can be summarized in two main tasks: i) Functional characterization of the selected ligands, and aptamers selection; ii) In vitro evaluation of the developed nanosystems to mediate selective interaction with the target and to determine their antitumor efficacy in 2D and 3D models of non small cell lung cancer.
