The Tumor Immunology Unit is part of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute (SRSI), which is located within the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele. Several research Units in the Divisions of Immunology and Oncology are devoted to the study of the immune system and cancer with the final goal of developing innovative immune-based therapeutic strategies for both hematological and solid tumors. Original and innovative cellular and gene therapy clinical trials have been implemented and carried out in the hospital attesting its high vocation in translational research.

Main Task:

Our main activity will be to identify cells and molecules with immunosuppressive function present within the tumor microenvironment amenable for repolarization by specifically-designed nanosystems. We will study the interaction between several immune cell subsets and the nanoparticles either unloaded or loaded with particular molecules of interest. The aim is to use those nanoparticles to revert the immunosuppressive microenvironment towards immune cell infiltrates with antitumor activity.
